covered with rich Renaissance embroidery (which is still visible on the side
panels). Then it was shown to a famous designer, who said, "It's lovely, but why
not add a modern note? Why not lay a ribbon of smooth silver right down the
center of the handle?" Instantly, there was a striking effect of plain silver
contrasted with rich ornamentation.
